Wedding by the Sea

There are weddings you coordinate, and then there are weddings where you look around and think, wait... that's my brother getting married!

This was definitely the second kind.

My brother got married in beautiful Carmel-by-the-Sea, California, and I got to experience his wedding in a completely different way—not just as his sister, but as his coordinator too. This wedding taught me a lot.

Every couple is different. That ended up being my biggest takeaway from this wedding. Some couples want every detail mapped out and every moment happening exactly on time. Others are much more laid-back.

And neither is wrong.

My job as a coordinator isn't to make every wedding run exactly the same. It's to understand the couple and give them the kind of support they need. Sometimes that means following a detailed timeline down to the minute. Sometimes it means realizing everyone is having a great time and letting the moment happen.

And sometimes it means quietly fixing a seating problem while everyone else keeps enjoying dinner!

The goal isn't to create a wedding where absolutely nothing goes wrong. It's to create a wedding where the couple doesn't have to worry about it when something does.

The ceremony took place at Stone Chapel in Monterey, surrounded by the people closest to them. Afterward, we headed to Il Fornaio for dinner. The entire day was intimate, relaxed, and genuinely them.

Of course, because it's still a wedding, we had a few hiccups. We ran into some seating issues at dinner, and there was a moment where my coordinator brain went, Okay... what are we doing?

But we figured it out, adjusted, and kept everything moving. And I realized something—a few months ago, something like that probably would have stressed me out WAY more.

This time, I just adapted.

At the end of the night, everyone gathered back at the hotel. No timeline. No coordinating. Nothing left for me to manage. We just sat together sharing stories, laughing, and talking.

And honestly, that was one of my favorite parts of the entire wedding. It was a reminder of what all the timelines, vendor emails, and planning are actually for. The people. The stories. And the memories you get to take home with you.

Congratulations to my brother and my new sister-in-law.

I'm so grateful I got to be part of this one in more ways than one.
